My favorite character in this is Michael. He is the heart and soul of the movie. I don't agree with some people who put him down. He sees atrocities against black people and is moved to action. He seems to be the glue that holds his dysfunctional family together. I agree it feels annoying when he falls for Sarah because it seems then his motives turn from being about the cause to being all about Sarah.
I debate whether Kenny Klein is for real or not but when it comes to Sarah it's hard to say if Michael cares for real either. When it comes to his brother and sister, Michael seems like he has clear motives but did he go to Berkeley to really fight against the war or just because he wanted to go visit Sarah. After a while, he started seeming pathetic in his chase of her. Part 1 was better than Part 2 even though I liked Jeremy as Kenny in both parts. He is pretty hot!
It's a good story mostly but it does rely too much on cliched people instead of really developed characters.
