SIX FEET UNDER

SEASON 3

EPISODE 12: TWILIGHT

In Texas, a serial killer is being put to death by lethal injection. His daughter and his victims' families watch and it seems all are relieved when he is gone.

At this point, Lisa has remained missing for about two weeks. Nate has never been more miserable than he is now, not knowing, imagining everything, especially after it is revealed that Lisa, who claimed that soft drinks were toxic, drank Dr. Pepper behind his back.

And what is that? Why did Lisa do things like this? Did she have some kind of need to project herself as The Greenest Person, Nature Girl, Vegan of the Universe to Nate? Was it a ploy to impress him? I can imagine so many things with her. Like eating Tofu Meatloaf while Nate and Claire visit, and when they're safely gone, going out for prime rib. I can imagine her refusing to see movies (in front of Nate) because film is made from horse hoof gelatin, and yet later sneaking off to some matinee. Nate must be wondering, is there anything about her that ISN'T fake? And how does he know she didn't just abandon him with the baby and run off with some other dude she's been seeing on the side?

Brenda learns about what's happened with Lisa, and tries to offer Nate her friendship. The anger he's feeling toward Lisa is expressed by his screaming at Brenda to go away and leave him alone, that she's not really his friend anyway, she's just a selfish bitch. Yep, that's Lisa alright.

Claire is indeed pregnant, and has decided that the only option is to terminate the pregancy. Wisely, she refrains from telling anyone in the family...they've all got enough on their plate right now, and asks Brenda to give her a lift to the clinic. Brenda, the class act, puts aside the terrible way Nate has just acted, and helps and supports Claire. She even stays there and waits. Others would have dropped her off and left.

Ruth has begun to accept the fact that her daughter-in-law is most likely dead. Lonlier than ever, she has fallen head on into the life of her new friend George. She has known him a whole 2 weeks and is already talking marrying him. Never will you see 2 people having so much fun shopping for a power tool. They might as well have been in a sex toy shoppe. After her offspring loudly vocalize their disapproval of her getting married in the midst of this Lisa crisis, she reconsiders. Later, George confesses that when and if they do marry, Ruth will be wife #7.

Nate is barely able to function, but he manages to assist the very weird daughter of the serial killer in Texas. For some reason, the creepy blonde attracts Nate, and they have a short-lived fling before he unleashes more rage onto her, telling her what a monster her dad was, imagining Lisa being victimized by him on the beach.

David is still despondent over the turn of events in his relationship with Keith. He seeks the counsel of Father Jack, who tells him, "You need to do what brings you deeper into the reality of your life. But not the life you think you could have, the life you've got." Wise words...too bad they're so true. What some of us wouldn't do just to have a different life. That could be the very driving force behind why David decides that he and Keith should just break up. The desire for a different life? Or just making your real life a little more bearable, end all of the fighting and the compromises. Very intriguing.

Nate has quickly discovered solace in the bottle. His dreams of Lisa are ones of guilt, misery and regret. And just think, he thought that if he could just get out of being married to her, he'd be happier.

Another really good, revealing episode. It gets an A.
