About Jeremy Sisto

A true actor disappears into each role...

Jeremy Sisto was born in 1974, in the small town of Grass Valley, California. He and his parents moved to the Kentucky/Indiana border area when he was about three. He ended up in Chicago, IL and started acting when he was six. His first play was at the Goodman Theatre in Tennessee Williams' A HOUSE NOT MEANT TO STAND. His mother is actress Reedy Gibbs, who appeared in the films CROSSING FIELDS, MYSTERIOUS SKIN and BRICK, and his sister is actress Meadow Sisto, who was in CAPTAIN RON, TWISTED DESIRE and THE LAST TIME I COMMITTED SUICIDE.

It's been said that Jeremy is an actor of amazing range and it's true. I first noticed him in 1997 when I rented WHITE SQUALL and couldn't believe it was the same actor who played Elton in CLUELESS. Watching Jeremy from role to role, project to project, is like watching colors change in a rainbow. He is just plain fun to watch. He is a physical as well as emotional chameleon, and one of the best actors in his generation, with nearly 70 film and TV roles to his credit, along with an impressive string of stage appearances as well.

Early on, Sisto made the decision not just to take "unusual" or "dark" roles, but to explore the kind of characters that we tend to misunderstand. Just a few of those roles are: a confused and painfully lonely transexual; an abused and angry teenager living in poverty; an ambitious medical student who gets mixed up with his friends in a foolish scheme; a loud, proud, dedicated, yet totally misunderstood left-wing student activist; a divine but also extremely human religious figure; a talented but tortured manic-depressive artist; an unlikely father figure to a disturbed thirteen year old; a passionate and magnetic "movie-nut"; a reclusive computer programmer who is being terrorized in his own home; a violent and homophobic pro-baseball player; an enigmatic, headstrong ex-FBI agent who is driven to a new mission in life by some very heavy emotional baggage; an all too human example of a "bad husband"; and a very strong-"willed" heroin addict who refuses to let "hope" prevail...

Sisto's examination and exploration of these characters has earned him acclaim from both critics and fans like myself, who continue to be facinated by his ability not only to "dissolve" into his various characters, but to make those characters so human, in spite of some of their unlikeable deeds or qualities, that viewers cannot avoid seeing the character as a whole person, in shades of gray rather than either black or white.

SITE HISTORY...

SISTO ACT began as "My Jeremy Sisto Page" or "Mari's Jeremy Sisto Page" in October of 1999. The site was developed by a fan named Mari, with the help of a another fan named Amee, who, at that time, had one of perhaps two Jeremy Sisto fansites on the web, and another fan, Mary, who had a very fun and clever site with commentary about films. Later, in 2008, Mari's friend Patsy, also an enthusiastic Jeremy fan, came aboard to help with searches, news, updates and photos. In nearly nine years time, this site grew from a one pager with a picture and a blurb to a large volume of information, pictures and media, and Mari became more serious about making this site a very fun and informative place to visit for anyone wanting to know about this gifted actor.

Mari and Patsy would like to thank all of the fans, all over the world, who have assisted us with this site, in any way. This is your site too!
