So once I got a good copy from the first retailer Mary went through (Antisoshal.com) I was able to enjoy this movie. I haven't seen a transexual this gorgeous since Tim Curry in "The Rocky Horror Picture Show". Jeremy Sisto's "Tim" is as delicate and beautiful as a seashell, and every bit as mysterious. I love Jeremy's eyebrows in this movie! It looks like he had them plucked and shaped for this film. To this day, I've always thought eyebrows are an important part of the character & expression of the face. I love that Sisto's eyebrows have always stayed (even after this long-ago film) very neatly shaped to set off his beautiful eyes, not all bushy and messy looking. What would he look like if he had Sam Waterston's brows? I like Sam Waterston, but his brows on Jeremy would look very strange!
Hear hear! How brave Jeremy is to take on a role like this! Who could imagine an actor with leading man qualities to wear very realistic breasts and do "female nudity" and not admire the living hell out of him! The only braver thing would be to have him naked throughout the entire picture! It's not only the physical difficulties I admire, it's the way Jeremy embodies this character with such heart and soul. I am completely speechless with the results.
I am not saying anything that hasn't already been said. But Mary is right. You think certain characters are the "good guys", but later you see how those same characters are the opposite of good. One character in particular is very sleazy and unscrupulous, not to mention a total hypocrite about illegal aliens while he deals with Columbian cocaine dealers. I am not going to share my political opinions on immigration or recreational drugs, but that character! What a steaming pile of dogturd! Viggo Mortenson is a very good actor and the fact that he makes his loathsome character very real proves that.
I also want to avoid plastering my opinions about gay hate crimes, but I agree, this movie is not anti-gay themed. It is very pro-gay. The hypocrite homophobe is painted in true colors and revealed for what he is. I also loved the character "Bill". He really went through the same ordeal with Tim as with his mother, who kills herself in the beginning. The roles of Camilla and Bill's cheating wife (Pamela Gidley of "CSI") were also well done.
Honestly if not for Jeremy giving such a sparkling, beautiful portrayal of a young gay man who seems to be drowning in a sea of sexual confusion and unhappiness (excuse the long and terrible pun), would I have given this unknown film a look. Maybe not. I love Viggo, but I had never heard of this movie until Mary told me about it.
I recommend it with enthusiasm to any Sisto or Viggo follower! It's not an easy film or a leading man role for Sisto, and it's not your average story or characters, but if you can handle it, you won't regret seeing Sisto in this movie just for the sheer experience of seeing him take it on!
