DEAD & BREAKFAST

Review by Anja Bohn, October 2007

Wacky, bloody and absolutely hilarious!

This is not a horror movie! A comic splatter movie is probably a better term for it. There are lots and lots of death, blood, chopped off limbs and living deads (zombies). At first glance, pretty much the elements of a horror movie, but it's mixed with a wonderful humour and a crazy country and western-soundtrack, that just makes it hilarious. A mixture you've never experienced before! Don't watch this movie if you're looking for either absorption, drama or a good thrill - you will not get it! But if you don't take yourself or the way you spend your time too seriously, then this is definately the movie for you.

It has a quite impressive cast, which is probably a bit unusual for a movie like this, but possibly one of the reasons why it works so wonderfully. It's hysterically funny. When was the last time you saw a bunch of bloodthirsty zombies temporarily stop their attack on a small group of people just to dance something which resemblances linedance - oh, and accompanied by a couple of country and western musicians sitting on the roof of a van? It doesn't happen that often. I would like to comment on the music a bit more, because it's fabulous and very much a contributory factor in intensifying the movie's comically element. It's used as background music, as a co-narrator, as a commentator on the plot as well as a liaise between the scenes. Just listen to it! I was left with a surreal feeling of "did I really see, what I think, I saw?". It is without doubt the wackiest movie, I have ever seen. Don't miss it!
