I just saw In Enemy Hands today. I must say I really enjoyed this
movie. Though Jeremy doesn't have a huge part, it's still a great
story. I think William H. Macy did a wonderful job. I think it shows
even when on opposite sides, people can still come together inspite
of everything. It goes to show how easily the hands of fate can
change. Exactly why we should be respectful to everyone we meet.
Life is like a circle indeed. Whatever we do in one point will find
us eventually. How we acted then will determin our fate the next
time around. I suppose Karma is really out there so to say.
I think this was a new version of a war story not really seen
before. Yes in the end the Americans still win. But the hands of
fate changed so many times. The German Captain, Kapitän Jonas Herdt
(Til Schweiger) could have easily sentenced them all to death,
including his own men. But he wanted life for them all, so he was
willing to sacrifice his freedom. The American prisoners had to team
up with the German soldiers in order to live. The Germans had to
trust in the Americans and The Americans in the Germans. Which I'm
sure at the time of war was not easy to do.
I think as it came closer to the end of the movie each side saw that
everyone was only human and had as much emotion as the other did.
But if you think about it. What saved the men was what was killing
most of them off. The disease of meningitis saved what American
soldiers were left. The diseases spread to the Germans. Had they not
died they would not have needed the Americans help.
I think my favorite part was the end when Chief of Boat Nathan
Travers (William H. Macy) and 1st Watch Officer Ludwig Cremer
(Thomas Kretschmann) were talking at the prison. The both place
their hands on the fence on each others hand. I think it showed a
botherhood so to say. A brotherhood of life. If they had not done
what they did, they both would have died along with their men.
I would recommend this movie to everyone. Might even suggest it's
worth buying. Yes it is a war movie, but the main point of the movie
isn't the war. It about humanity and morality in my opinion. I think
anyone would enjoy this movie. I think it leaves a question in your
head. "What would you have done in a situation like that?" I'm sure
we'd all like to say we'd have done the same. But trust is something
that is very hard to do, even more so when it's In Enemy Hands.
I will give this movie 5 stars *****. So far I believe this to be
one of the best movies story wise that Jeremy has been in. As for
Jeremy's role he did just fine with a small part. Like always.
Besides Jeremy there are a few faces you may or may not recognize.
