MAY

Fan review by Ingo, October 24, 2008

Can a film be wicked and benevolent at once? Can it be creepy and heartwarming? Can it be something so easy to relate and yet so twisted? The answer is yes, if the film is May! A loving gift of writer and director Lucky Mckee, May is the sweet yet gory (surprising blood content!) tale of a small girl who grows up to be a small woman, very easy to get lost in crowds. She has 2 strikes against her, her shyness and her crooked eye. Only her glasses camouflage her imperfection, but she hates her glasses and wants to be beautiful.

Her yearning for love and friendship grows still when she notices a sexy mechanic and becomes enamoured with the perfection in him, especially his hands. Haha! Especially his hands will take on whole new meaning for you when you see this delightful charming film. Who else could have played May but Angela Bettis? I can't imagine. The character is hers alone. Twenty or thirty or fifty years from now, when they think of a remake of this already classic of indie horror, who will they get to play May? It will have to be someone very special!

A wonderful film which I must recommend. Jeremy Sisto is not in the entire film, but he has a good part!
