See the pear Mary put up there? It looks yummy right? There are pears on the DVD cover too, and are meant to tell you what a delicious (and maybe sexy) movie this is. Instead, you would do better to just go buy yourself some lucious golden pears at the store and eat them!!!
"Moonlight And Valentino" is your typical mid-90s chick flick and therefore not very exciting, memorable or even likeable. For the most part, I found the main actresses performances annoying and overacted or just plain poorly acted. I'm sorry to say that I disagree with my friend Mary on this movie. Being a woman, I find it pretty sad that this is supposed to be a "womens' movie". I disliked every single female character, and during the endless scenes of talking about wrinkles, salvaging bad marriages, and the ugh! different "kinds" of womanhood, I wanted to puke. I agreed with the one character who chided the other about how women shouldn't define themselves around the men in their lives, but the same exact character is one of the worst in the movie. The character (played by Kathleen Turner of "Body Heat") has the most nauseating conversation with the Gwenyth Paltrow character about romance and kissing. Gwenyth's character is a jerk whose constant smoking made me want to open all my windows because I was gagging that hard!
As a matter of fact, (at least it's fact to me!) the men in this movie are far more charming and likeable than the whiny, self-absorbed women. Jon Bon Jovi has a role that was meant to be nothing more than a physically gorgeous hunk. The women even stand around staring at and making comments about his ass. Bon Jovi plays this role with class and turns the tables on what they meant to do with him. He is both sensitive and sensible, and a very charming personality.
Josef Sommers has a smaller role, but the small amount of time he spends here is wonderful, and I couldn't help but hip hip hooray him for how he handles the atrocious Alberta (Turner's character).
And lastly, Jeremy Sisto. He has a small role too, even though the opening credit titles would have you believing otherwise. He plays a college student who falls for Gwenyth's character, and is described, awfully, as a "lovesick poet"! He is meant to be the perfect match (even Mary thought so) of Gwenyth's Lucy. He is a sweet guy. What did he see in Lucy? I wish I could say because I don't know. For one thing, she is a snob to him from the first. I can't stand her! It would be one thing if she was a goth or something but she's not, she's just a jerk! She goes around acting like the world's about to end and acts like a bitch to Alberta because her real mom died of cancer?! Whatever! She's just a jerk plain and simple and I don't understand why anyone would think she or any of the other female leads are so likeable.
I have spent way more time on this bad film than it deserves. Jeremy Sisto has a small role. He is very sweet and likeable, and Bon Jovi is great too. But unless you want to be left extremely frustrated (even sexually, as Mary said about not ever knowing if Steve and Lucy hook up LOLLOLLOL!!! I can't recommend this movie and keep a straight face. I would have to say that it's bad all the way up to its end, which is one of the worst ends of a movie I've ever seen, including the end of the "60's"!
<--------another pair for your enjoyment, Patsy!!!
