I asked Mari to put my favorite film and TV star, Lucy, on my review for decoration. A comic genius as well as a glamorous and wonderful actress, Lucy embodies everything from "old" Hollywood. I adore her and she lives forever. She's my hero.
THE MOVIE HERO is an astonishingly spiritual portrait of the human desire to be loved, to be noticed, admired, respected. Blake's quest to make his audience proud of him is likened to a truly sincere walk with God.
The mean side of humanity, manifest in Jonathan (the doomed fiance) is accurate as Jonathan treats Blake with disrespect. Jonathan's hatefulness and cruelty represents the enemy to anyone who is trying their best to live a good life. Mr. Suspicious is not the real villain, but just a sad and misguided soul who has lost his faith in his own capacity for goodness. He lost his audience, he thought. Jonathan, in contrast, almost seems the devil personified as he tramples on Blake, calling him a "no-body".
"Be the hero" simply means to live a good life. Be a kind caring person. Walk daily with the God you believe in. Live for love and goodness, not hatred and evil. Jonathan's arrogant, egotistical self important existence does little to mask his general unhappiness.
Elizabeth, Blake's "love interest" doubts Blake's message, believing him to be insane and in need of therapy and a shot of reality. In the end, she wakes up to the fact that not only does Blake love her, he believes in her, respects her, trusts her, and needs her, things that Jonathan seems to proud and full of himself to do. When Blake's faith in her is shaken, she opens her eyes to the truth and sets out immediately to make amends.
Don't mistake this for a solemn movie though. Jeremy has never been funnier, crazier nor lovelier than he was in this one.
