Conflicts climax at funeral home in 'Six Feet'
Assorted chickens come home to roost -- at the funeral home, that is, -- on Sunday's two-hour season finale of "Six Feet Under," airing at 9 on HBO.
Mostly closeted gay brother David gets hit by two incidents that bring his conflicts to the fore. A fatal gay bashing brings the family funeral home a client in the first hour. In the second, a battle over gay marriages splits the church where he's a deacon.
Meanwhile, straight brother Nate and his brilliant girlfriend, Brenda, argue over her brother, Billy, whose troubling behavior makes him seem like a candidate for an institution -- a solution Brenda doesn't want to face. Mom and sis also have their private life dramas to play out.
Creator Alan Ball's darkly comic family drama has already been renewed for a second season by HBO, and it's been doing quite nicely in the ratings since the cable channel moved it to the time slot behind "Sex and the City." Since "Sex" had its season finale last week, the weekly "Sopranos" rerun will lead in to "Six Feet Under" tonight, at 8, and that can't hurt. Ball, who wrote "American Beauty," also wrote and directed tonight's second hour. (Repeats at various times during the week.)
