some girl

fan review by darla, november 2, 2008

Just wasnt' totally satisfied with some girl. I really liked a lot about it. I miss seeing Marissa Ribisi, but she was in her best films, including some girl in the 90s when these films were popular. Claire is the character you get to know best.

The things I didn't like about some girl is that too many of the principal characters were not drawn out well. You never understand April quite the same as you understand Claire. You never really understand guys like Neal and Chad because they are not fleshed out properly, so Neal came off as this glutton for punishment and Chad was so one dimensional I just thought of him as a barnyard animal.

Other characters I wish to know better are Claire's dad, like Is he rich? Why are they divorced? What does he do for a living? Where are they going for their trip?, why does Jason live with the mom? and especially her friends Jenn (Is she Robbie's bodygaurd? or personal assistant? and Susan (what will she do in Italy once she moves there?). Robbie the aussie guy was interesting too. Why was he so sad? Is he a career flunky? Is he a drug addict or a drunkard and if so is it because of his career and loss of his wife? What happened to his wife anyway? And so on.

the only characters you really know are Claire and Jason (not as much as Claire though) and even with Claire, you want to know why she is always drunk. She cant' even have a date without drinking first. Also, is Jason becoming a drunk too? Do their parents see their problems? Have they tried to help? at the risk of being cliche I would guess that the parents think eveyrthing is always hunky dory with their kids.

And April, why does she hate herself so much? Is she addicted to sex? Why? Why does she push Neal away from her when he's so good to her?

It would have been a lot more fun of a movie if the characters would have been deeper. Still, it has a lot of fun moments and I still like to watch it every now and then.
