INFORMATION
Directed by Asia Argento, this is a film based on the vignettes of J.T. LeRoy, short stories of a young boy who is born to a teenage prostitute.
I bought the book from Barnes and Noble in April 2004 and read it in 2 days. I am convinced that the movie is going to be unforgettable like the book was...if they are true to the book. If you haven't read this book, please do. It's graphic, disturbing, and doesn't even have a happy ending to make you feel better. But it's the most lyrically beautiful story I've read in a long time. THE HEART IS DECEITFUL ABOVE ALL THINGS will be directed by Asia Argento who will also star as Sarah, the young mother who abuses her child, Jeremiah, and drags him along in her world of truck stops, meth labs, and other insanities that will make your hair stand on end.

The Stories in the Book:
DISAPPEARANCES---Jeremiah is first taken from his foster home and introduced to the instability and latent viciousness of his young mother, Sarah. THE HEART IS DECEITFUL ABOVE ALL THINGS---Jeremiah endures one of the most horrible things a child can go through. TOYBOXED---Jeremiah is put through a therapy program for children who have been raped and molested, and then his grandparents take him into their not so safe custody. FOOLISHNESS IS BOUND IN THE HEART OF A CHILD---The religious fanaticism and harsh physical punishment methods are revealed in the house of Jeremiah's grandparents. LIZARDS---Sarah yanks Jeremiah out of her parents' home and takes him on the truck, along with her boyfriend Kenny, to Florida. She takes work as a stripper near the seedy motel they stay in, and Jeremiah meets the 12 year old "lizard", Milkshake. BABY DOLL---Sarah has taken up with Jackson, and Jeremiah gets "made over". It is here that he first begins to experiment with manipulation and seduction in a desperate attempt to get love and attention. COAL---Sarah is more insane than ever, dying her hair black and convinced the world is about to end. VIVA LAS VEGAS---Jeremiah finds himself abandoned at a roadside cafe. METEORS---Sarah is man-hunting, and an ecologist in Death Valley catches her eye. She uses Jeremiah to capture the man's attention. Another bizzare story. NATOMA STREET---This is the saddest story of all. The only thing I took comfort in was that the book SARAH is kind of a sequel, if you will. If you're going to read THIDAAT, you must follow it up right away with SARAH.
The characters of THIDAAT are all unforgettable, so it isn't just Jeremy that I'm looking foreward to seeing. The cast includes:
Asia Argento as SARAH, the mother of the young boy whose stories are being told. Argento is also the director, and has already come under fire from critics who dismissed her effort at the Cannes Fortnight.
Kip Pardue will play LUTHER, a cowboy that Sarah picks up and goes home with. If Pardue does Luther justice, we'll hate him. In the book, Luther appears in the story DISAPPEARANCES.
Jeremy Renner, who was so creepy in the film DAHMER, will play one of many men Sarah gets involved with. I don't remember this particular man having a name, but he left a permanent mark on the boy, and on many a reader, in the story THE HEART IS DECEITFUL ABOVE ALL THINGS.
Peter Fonda will play the GRANDPA of the boy, a religious fanatic who employs the use of bleach, scrub-brushes, and belts to make the children aware of his authority.
Ben Foster will play THE FLESHY BOY, whom I believe is one of the older kids in the Granddad's house.
Matt Schultz will play KENNY, one of many truckers Sarah hooks up and travels with.
Willa Holland will play MILKSHAKE, a heartbreakingly young prostitute who works the truck lots while her mother is gone doing drugs. Milkshake and Kenny are in the story LIZARDS.
Winona Ryder will play the boy's THERAPIST. It's a small role. The story she appears in is TOYBOXED, I think.
The one and only Marilyn Manson will play JACKSON, a tatooed, "born again" guy who loves really kinky sex. BABY DOLL is probably one of the most bizzare and disturbing stories in the volume.
Jeremy Sisto plays CHESTER, a biker who lives in an electricity-free cabin in W. Virginia, and makes meth in the basement.
Michael Pitt appears as Chester's friend BUDDY, who brings the boy Fiddle Faddle in the story COAL.
