THE THIRST

Review by Ingo, October 30, 2009

Well this is my Halloween review this year. Last year I did a review of May. Incredible how fast a year goes! I do not know exactly what to say about The thirst. It is a very, ahem, unusual movie, isn't it? It is kind of raunchy (naked vampires doing lap dance on old people, yuck! Darius and Maxx steamy homosexual plot, hot!) and kind of cheesy and campy I guess is the correct word (bad acting by hooker in the beginning when she gets the lamp shoved into her head, double yuck!) Kind of clever (the sense of humour of Darius, Duke, Marial and Maxx and the little hemophiliac girl plot device). Kind of filled with heart (again, the little girl, a character of wisdom and goodness, the love story of Maxx and Lisa). Kind of silly (why didn't Macy smell or see the blood on Maxx when he came to turn her to his family? Why do all the bites and wounds suddenly disappear on the vampires?) Blood is too red and too thin, as with all subpar horror pictures.

The extend scenes gives more depth and heart to the characters, especially the "long suicide" of Lisa scene, and the long "funeral" scene. Characters are very good and well developed anyway. I didn't find the cats being eaten very funny, but it was not on screen so I didn't even get what they were doing until I watch a second or third time. And to be honest, this film might only be an annoyance the first time, a cheap, cheesy bad horror film, one of the worst. I am only saying what Mari said in her own review:It's only after you watch at least 2 or 3 times that it will get better and you actually begin to like it a little or a lot.
