THE THIRST is an excellent vampire story with endless liters of blood being used. It is directed by Jeremy Kasten and had its world-wide presentation at Sitges 2006. A near re-make of the great Near Dark from Kathryn Bigelow, including a nomadic family of very hungry vampires in search of blood. There are moments at which this film arrives at levels of splatter gore, with rivers of blood flooding the screen, perhaps somewhat exaggerated.
The beginning of the movie indicates early on the level of gore that is going to follow throughout the story; one vampire rams a lamp down the throat of a hooker, for instance. Soon we see the protagonist, Lisa (Clare Kramer), a gogo dancer vomiting blood in the middle of her striptease. They take her to the hospital and we found out she has terminal cancer. Her fiance Maxx (Matt Keeslar) did not know Lisa was sick, and the situation is hopeless. But one night a weird nurse visits the patient, and afterward, Lisa escapes of the hospital and commits suicide.
After her funeral, Max is in a depression, and some friends take him to a dance club, where he sees the impossible. He returns another night to the club and is able to seat himself in the reserved zone of the atmosphere cellar BDSM. Suddenly, the club is invaded by a group of people who immediately begin killing everyone and drinking their blood. Lisa has joined this group and she is one of them...
This is an extraordinarily bloody film, perhaps one of the best vampire films of the times, with excellent actors, like Jeremy Sisto, who is PERFECT as the head of the vampires.
