THE WAR PRAYER

Fan Review by Mari, March 31, 2010

THE WAR PRAYER is a fifteen minute short film, made without frills, glamor or sensationalism, about the simple reality of war. Our world, a constant hotbed of political, economic and religious turmoil, consists of a "war-loving" society. It seems there's always an excuse of one or another kind to engage in violence and inflict bloodshed and misery upon other people.

The simple yet compelling story is of a homeless man who wanders into a noisy, cheering church service, listens to the pastor and the congregation pray for "victory in battle" and then goes up to the pulpit to deliver what we should ALL believe is God's true opinion of war, whatever God you believe in. It indicts all of the bullshit excuses, be they religious fervor, economic struggle, political difference of opinion, or just good ol' corporate greed, and delivers the truth about war and violence with fire.

This is definitely a film and a story for today, because war is the same today as it was centuries and eons ago: it's hateful, violent, tears families apart, ruins lives, destroys sanity and security, and carries out the purposes of evil and cruelty, all in the name of a Holy and Righteous God, of course. We need more great films that tell the simple truth, because our world's minds need to be kicked back into perspective.
